General Manager Job in County Durham
Job Description
We are looking for a highly commercial General Manager with extensive sales, marketing, and trading experience. The role is with an established distribution service business based in Chester-Le-Street, County Durham. The company provides services to the construction industry and has first-class reputation within the industry.
Main Responsibilities:
* Strategic Planning, including:
o Work closely with the Board to maintain a rolling 3-year Business Plan to define the plans to achieve the business growth objectives.
o Evaluate new market, product, and service opportunities for the business and present recommendations to the Board.
* Day-Day Management of the Business, including:
o Work closely with the Board in the preparation of the annual (opex & capex) budget and quarterly forecasts.
o Lead the team in the achievement of budgeted business performance.
o Develop and lead a structured approach to sales and marketing.
o The GM will have a clear focus on effective management of gross margin, service levels and stock.
* Negotiate and Manage Commercial Contracts: including:
o Supply agreements with existing and new product suppliers.
o Service contracts, including IT, Marketing, eCommerce, etc.
o General commercial contracts, including insurance, energy, etc.
* Business Development & Improvement, including:
o Develop an agile approach to identifying and implementing tactical sales and profitability improvements across the business.
* Report on Business Performance vs Targets and KPIs, including:
o Work closely with the Board to develop the KPIs for the business and create a dashboard to ensure that performance is always visible.
o Develop a culture of performance measurement and reporting throughout the business.
Person Specification
The General Manager role requires the following keys skills/competencies/personal qualities:
* Degree educated in business, marketing, or similar subject.
* Previous experience (c. 3 years) working in a senior, broad commercial management / general management role in a fast-paced B2B or (high AOV) B2C business.
* Deep knowledge of and experience in sales, marketing, trading, and customer service.
* A demonstrable track record of leading and delivering profitable growth initiatives.
* Ecommerce experience is not essential but would be a distinct advantage.
