Job Description
Location: Glasgow, University of Strathclyde International Study Centre
Contract Type: Part Time (20 hours per week) – Fixed Term
Salary: up to £ 14,288 per annum
JOB OVERVIEW
The Student Welfare Officer will ensure each student has access to relevant, timely and accurate student welfare information, advice and guidance and will work with individual students who require welfare support.
You will act as the deputy designated safeguarding lead for the University of Strathclyde ISC, providing support to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
The post-holder will also assist in other student experience tasks when required such as monitoring attendance and taking part in initial attendance warning meetings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Welfare:
* To be the main point of contact and liaison with the College Guardians and all other guardians for under 18s.
* To monitor attendance for under 18s and report as necessary.
* To provide pastoral support to under 18 students including meeting with them on a regular basis to discuss their progress academically, personally and practically.
* Monitor pastoral and academic welfare and ensure students are effectively signposted to the appropriate University services to meet their welfare needs (e.g. medical centre, accommodation, counselling services).
* Conduct the Attendance meetings– ensuring students are on correct engagement plans/monitor attendance.
* Assist students to complete the Extenuating Circumstances Form and liaise with the relevant internal parties with any relevant information/provision requirements.
* Monitor Strathclyde Welfare email.
* Support DSL with annual and quarterly safeguarding reports.
* Take on a role as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leading
Other:
* Be the point of contact at the Centre for any sponsor queries, completing FGLs/sending reports to sponsors and responding to queries.
General Duties
* Deputise for the Head of Student Experience in safeguarding areas as required.
* Support the Head of Centre and Senior Management Team as required.
* Provide student-facing advice and support at Student Services eg. Learning Conversations, Ad-hoc meetings, assemblies, general enquiries etc.
* Facilitate the induction process and arrivals with the Student Experience Team.
* Foster productive relationships with the student body and members of staff.
* Promote and safeguard the welfare of students.
* Any other duties as directed by the Head of Student Experience or the Head of Centre
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Working with international students
* Working in a Higher Education or Further Education environment
* Using data management systems.
* Must have excellent Word and Excel skills
* At least one year’s experience working in a customer services environment.
* At least one year’s experience working in an administrative environment.
* Effective Communication includes accurate written English and excellent verbal communication skills.
* Ability to empathise and build rapport on a one-to-one basis with the customer base (international students).
* Knowledge of University database system/s and data inputting
* Knowledge of Further and Higher Education Courses/Structures
* Familiarity with exam processes
