Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Assistant Quantity Surveyor Job in Cardiff, South Glamorgan

Job Description

Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Cardiff with travel across South Wales – Up to £27,000 with Bonus and excellent benefits
Joining Ogi is a unique opportunity to work within an innovative Welsh business and one of the fastest-growing companies in Wales.

For many years, we've been providing mainstream internet and IT services as Spectrum Internet and Net Support UK. We rebranded to Ogi to represent our dedication to Welsh communities and received a significant multi-million-pound investment to deliver a large-scale and ambitious rollout of full-fibre internet across South Wales.

We’re looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join a small, fast-paced team that is part of a much larger area of the company. Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial, this is a key role in the management and progression of our Network Build across South Wales.

About you…
We’re open to speaking to candidates with different levels of experience to join our team. You could be coming out of a similar position looking for a step up with an exciting company, you could be looking to complete professional training and RICS (or other recognised professional qualification), or you could be someone who is coming out of University and looking to make their mark in a fast-paced team. Either way, we recommend getting in touch for more information.

In an ideal world, you’ll have good telecommunication experience however we’re open to backgrounds in areas like utilities, construction, etc (or straight from university with a relevant degree) – as long as you’re keen and interested in learning then we feel we can progress people with the right attitude quickly!

Working with our supply chain will require you to have strong communication skills, we’re also looking for someone with strong organisational skills with good attention to detail as you’ll be involved with reporting as well as collating and interpreting spreadsheets and financial data.

As part of the role, you’ll be working with and visiting our build sites across South Wales so it is a requirement to have a full drivers license.

What you’ll be doing…
We’ve gone from 20 to over 140 in the last year, the build is growing every day across South Wales. As our company grows at pace, so will the responsibilities held in this role. It’s an ideal position to sink your teeth into and gain some great experience.

You’ll act as an inter-department liaison; try to imagine it as a little like Pep Lijders to Jurgen Klopp – you’ll be part of a team working across a lot of interesting areas, building relationships, coaching, and working to sort things out with our Planning and Regional Build teams and Build partners.
Day to day will be varied however the Assistant QS role responsibilities will include:
* Working with the Head of Commercial to assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks and appropriate risk management strategies and processes.
* Provide commercial and contractual support to our regional Build teams including managing contract instructions via FastDraft (our contract administration tool), correspondence and early warnings.
* Agreeing pricing and risk allowances for individual Task Orders, working closely with build partners and Build teams to agree on pricing and programme, before the commencement of each build area package.
* Working with the Network Planning Manager on value engineering/efficiency/uneconomic area analysis.
* Review build/planning packs as they are prepared to determine cost per area and average CPP.
* Producing workstream performance data, budget monitoring and cashflow forecast reports.
* Agreeing on final accounts for each Task Order with build partners, embracing our ‘Day One’ final accounting approach.
* Preparing governance and approvals papers for submission to our Executive Management and Board in connection with ongoing programmes of work, before their release to build partners.
* Assess and approve any compensation events/project variations and value build partner’s work, including certification of interim payments.
* Assist in the identification of potential construction partners, preparation of tender documents and tender assessments/clarifications.
* Negotiate and finalise contract documentation with civils/fibre contracting partners.
* Attend post and pre-contract tender meetings as well as commercial review meetings.
* Review contract documents ensuring the company is protected at all times.
