SWS Navigation Engineer

Barrow-in-Furness

Brief

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the team, providing SWS Navigation subject matter expertise to support the Strategic Weapons Test Organisation (SWTO) at Barrow-in-Furness. This combined team will be responsible for the build, test and commissioning of the Strategic Weapon System being installed in the new Dreadnought Class submarines. You will provide extensive and in depth SWS experience supporting of the testing, commissioning and setting to work of the Strategic Weapons System.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the SWS Navigation Engineer will include:

Proven experience in SWS Navigation Systems Engineering (Weapons Systems) , Support and Documentation
Documentation review
Test procedure reporting
Defect isolation and rectification
Good communications and interpersonal skills
Ability to build and maintain customer relationships with the confidence to debate technical issues with both Customer and Design Authority
Willing to travel to other UK sites and the US for development and training
SC clearance will be required to perform this role
Our ideal candidate will have direct experience of SSBN SWS Navigation systems (Submarines, Navy, Navigation Supervisor) however we are also open to applications from Weapons Systems Navigation Engineering from RAF and MOD backgrounds.

What experience you need to be the successful SWS Navigation Engineer:

Proven experience in Navigation Systems and support equipment
Good working knowledge Navigation documentation
Navigation Submarine / Ship interfaces ideally but would look at other Weapons Navigation Systems (i.e RAF, MOD)
Ability to build and maintain customer relationships with the confidence to debate technical issues with both Customer and Design Authority
Pro-active approach to providing solutions to emergent challenges
Excellent fault-finding skills and knowledge of sound fault-finding techniques
Ability to take ownership of tasks as delegated
Ability to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
Possess a willingness to conduct detached travel whilst undergoing specialist tailored training and experiential learning opportunities. This may include protracted periods on secondment throughout the UK or to the US.
