Teaching Assistants X2 TA Autism/ ASC
Here at Axcis we have the exciting opportunity for two teaching assistants to join a welcoming, thriving secondary school in Swindon SN4.
Both of these full-time roles are to join their ASC Centre on their mainstream campus. The Centre is very close-knit and is an incredibly supportive work environment for both students and staff. This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to start their career as a teaching assistant, as the staff are happy to support and are looking for a friendly face who is looking to throw themselves into their role.
The students in the Centre all have a diagnosis of Autism, and several have various SEMH needs. The Centre is a base for these students to spend time away from the Mainstream site when needed. There are several excellent resources here, including a creative common room, highly impressive sensory room, and spaces for students to work with a 1-1.
Your role as a TA here will be to support one student throughout the school day. In the mornings, you will spend time with your 1-1, helping them with morning activities before the lessons begin. During lessons in the mainstream site, you will support them with their work and keep them motivated. You are also able to take work from the teacher if the student is struggling to focus and bring them back to the Centre to complete if you feel this is appropriate. Students are excused from lessons on Wednesday afternoons and spend time with their Centre peers on either day trips or activities at the Centre. During this time you will be working closely with the other staff and students of the Centre. They also have Friday afternoons off for personal time, where they can join in with Centre activities or spend time independently.
To excel in this role, you will need to:
-be a friendly, approachable person able to chat with teenagers and adults
-enjoy working in an environment with teenagers who love making you laugh with jokes or small pranks
-have professional or personal experience with individuals with Autism, or with teenagers
-have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to get one
The hours for both roles are 8.30 to 3.30. Ideally the school are looking for two full-time members of staff, however they are flexible on this for the right person
