Job Description
Our Client is a global distributor of chemicals who has enjoyed continual growth and success supplying chemical products to a wide range of industries including glass, adhesives, feed and pharmaceuticals.
The Operations and Logistics team take responsibility for ensuring that the products which our Client sells are shipped, packed and transported from suppliers to the appropriate hubs, and onto their customers by road, air and sea.
They are now seeking a Logistics Manager. This positon is a full-time permanent role reporting to the Senior Supply Chain Manager and it will be office based in London or Liverpool. (Candidates can choose whether to be based in London or Liverpool).
Job Purpose
* The role involves working in a diverse and fast working team, delivering a wide range of products to an International customer base
* The Logistics Manager processes customer orders from start to end, receiving orders from the sales team, and then liaising both internally and externally with suppliers, docks, warehouses and hauliers to ensure that orders are fulfilled efficiently, as economically as possible to maximise profitability, and always meeting client demands on timing to final destination
Key Responsibilities
* Ensuring that orders are processed and entered accurately onto appropriate systems
* Ensuring that sufficient inbound stock is made available and allocated to meet outgoing orders
* Dealing with customs paperwork and reporting when necessary
* Negotiation and procurement of goods and services
* Organising appropriate shipping / transport to transport goods to the customer’s location
* Raising invoices in the appropriate format, passing all necessary paperwork to the Finance team in an orderly manner
* Keeping all paper and electronic records and filing up to date in “real time” at all times
* Completing reports as required and liaising with the sales and Finance team
* Participating in physical stock checks from time to time, at locations across the UK
* Liaising with suppliers, customers, ports, storage and transportation partners to ensure smooth operations at all times
* Ensuring QA compliance in line with Company procedures and regulated standards
* Using SAP and other ERP systems accurately and competently
* Actively contributing to team meetings in terms of reporting and seeking ways to make improvements to working methods and efficiencies
Qualifications and Experience
* Solid experience of working in commercial logistics or operations administration environments in the chemical sector is essential
* Experience in customs documentary procedures and movement of goods by sea, road and air
* Strong commercial understanding and awareness
* Must be confident in dealing with customer and supplier queries over the telephone
* Must be able to work under pressure to ensure that deadlines are met
* Must have good administration and organisational skills to manage workload and paperwork in an effective and controlled manner at all times
* Clear and accurate spoken English skills
* A high level of numeracy
* High level of computer literacy, and solid experience of using ERP systems (preferably SAP), MS Word, Excel and Outlook
* Must be a team player, with a “can-do” attitude who is happy to assist colleagues and “pitch-in” to get the job done
* Knowledge of supplier management and planning of stocks would be advantageous.
In return our Client is offering a competitive package including a basic salary between £40,000 and £45,000 per annum (Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience) plus bonus and benefits.
