Quality Release Technician – BCM Specials

Grade:        K

Fixed Term Contract – 12 months – Maternity Cover

Location:    Nottingham, NG90 2PR

Salary:        Up to £35,000 plus benefits, DOE

BCM Specials is the longest established manufacturer of Investigational Medicinal Products and Specials – bespoke sterile and non-sterile unlicensed medicines – in the UK. 

We now have a vacancy for a Quality Release Technician, on a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months, to cover maternity leave.

The job holder and Specials Pharmacist and Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) Team act as a nominated deputy for the Quality Controller being responsible for the release of Specials, a role similar to that of the QP for licensed products. The majority of products produced are not subject to end product testing. The role demands a broad technical understanding of a diverse range of products and processing technologies in order to ensure the release of products for sale that are safe and efficacious. Total annual sales value of products released is approximately £1.6m. 

The role requires an understanding of the regulatory and business requirements for producing unlicensed medicines. It also requires an understanding of the customer journey from receiving the order, producing high quality products and delivering excellent customer service.

Your key accountabilities will be;

To provide an effective product release service to deliver agreed On Time-In Full service levels to our customers above 98% delivery within 24-48 hours at all times. 

To release and guarantee the quality of all manufactured products by overseeing manufacturing operations; and to ensure that appropriate levels of GMP are adopted at all times. 

To liaise directly with all customer groups, internal and external, giving advice on a wide range of matters relating to specials. It is important that the job-holder has a good understanding of GMP.

Ensure the release of safe and effective unlicensed medicines in the shortest possible time. 

Continually challenges if we are operating to cGMP and best practice.  Develops policies, procedures and systems accordingly which continue to meet customer and business requirements.

Monitors and supports Operations in meeting highest levels of regulatory compliance and quality assurance. 

Ensures GMP failures and customer complaints are investigated. Monitors corrective actions.

Provides technical and professional advice to internal and external customers, including other healthcare professionals.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

A GPhC registered Accuracy Checking Technician/Registered Pharmacy Technician or graduate in a relevant science subject (e.g. Pharmacy, Biology, Chemistry) with a minimum of two years’ GMP experience.

Ability to work under pressure, brought about by the rapid turnaround required on bespoke special products (Typically products are manufactured and despatched in 1 working day).
Some previous experience in the small-scale manufacture of pharmaceuticals would be advantageous.
